EXE Winter Festival Turns Bansko’s Slopes into Europe’s New Apres-Ski Stage
EXE Winter Festival will transform the snowy slopes of Bansko into an open-air electronic stage this March, marking the resort’s first-ever large-scale après-ski winter festival held directly on the mountain. On 14 and 15 March, Banderishka Polyana — perched high beneath the dramatic ridgelines of the Pirin Mountain — will host a concept rarely seen in Eastern Europe: boutique daytime music gatherings unfolding on the snow itself.
The idea behind EXE Winter Festival is simple yet ambitious. Skiers and snowboarders descend the slopes, unclip their gear, and step straight into a curated electronic music experience running from 12:00 to 19:00. As daylight fades, the energy shifts indoors, where two official afterparties extend the rhythm well into the alpine night.
Headlining the debut edition of EXE Winter Festival is HUGEL, the French DJ and producer whose global hits such as “Bella Ciao” and “I Adore You” have amassed billions of streams. His sun-drenched house sound — built for open-air celebration — signals the organisers’ intention to place Bulgaria firmly on Europe’s winter music map.
He is joined by an international–regional constellation of artists. Ukrainian melodic techno figure Miss Monique brings her hypnotic builds, while Finnish producer Yotto adds progressive depth and atmosphere. Juany Bravo, Pavel Petrov, Dimo, Bagerziev and Jaffar complete a line-up designed to move fluidly between global pulse and local identity.

You carve the mountain by day, and by afternoon the mountain answers back in sound.

Day One, March 14 | 12:00 – 19:00, marked by green and yellow flags, features HUGEL alongside Juany Bravo, Dimo and Jaffar. Day Two, March 15 | 12:00 – 19:00, shifts to yellow and red, welcoming Miss Monique, Yotto, Pavel Petrov and Bagerziev. The colour-coded format reinforces the sense that this is not merely a concert on snow, but a carefully staged alpine experience.
Yet the resonance of EXE Winter Festival depends equally on its setting. Bansko has long been Bulgaria’s most sought-after winter resort, known for reliable snow cover, modern lift systems and panoramic runs that sweep down from the Todorka Peak region. Its UNESCO-listed mountain surroundings and preserved Old Town — with stone houses, taverns and centuries-old churches — offer visitors both a high-adrenaline spot and a cosy winter texture.
Over the past two decades, Bansko has evolved from a regional ski hub into an internationally recognised winter destination, attracting guests from across Europe, the United Kingdom and the Balkans. Affordable lift passes, expanding hotel infrastructure and a lively dining scene have made it particularly attractive to younger travellers seeking both slopes and social life.
Après-ski itself has become a defining element of modern alpine tourism. Originally a modest post-ski gathering for mulled wine or beer, it has grown into a distinct cultural ritual — a celebratory bridge between sport and nightlife. Music, themed events and open-air terraces now shape the rhythm of many European resorts.

…EXE Winter Festival is not just après-ski — it is altitude, rhythm and winter light converging in one unforgettable descent.
Across the Alps, legendary venues such as La Folie Douce in Val d’Isere and slope-side celebrations in St Anton am Arlberg have elevated après-ski into full-scale productions. In Ischgl, the annual “Top of the Mountain” concerts close the season with global headliners, while Avoriaz hosts Snowboxx, merging snow sports and electronic music in dramatic alpine settings.

Where snow meets bass, and Pirin becomes the backdrop, winter finds its most electric expression.

What distinguishes EXE Winter Festival is its direct placement on the slopes of Banderishka Polyana. Rather than descending to a village square or terrace, participants remain at altitude, surrounded by snowfields and forested peaks. The mountain itself becomes part of the stage design.
Practical considerations have not been overlooked. Organised by EXE in partnership with Bansko Ski, the festival offers ticket packages that include gondola lift access and special lift-pass combinations for skiers and boarders. A dedicated ski locker area ensures equipment can be stored safely, while food courts, drinks zones and full festival infrastructure provide comfort in the high-altitude environment.

Timing is crucial. As the ski season approaches its crescendo, EXE Winter Festival reframes the traditional closing period into a cultural high point. The crisp air of the Pirin Mountains, combined with carefully curated electronic soundscapes, creates an atmosphere that feels both invigorating and celebratory.
For Bulgaria, the event represents more than two days of music. It is a strategic step toward redefining winter tourism through lifestyle integration — blending sport, culture and contemporary sound. If the inaugural edition succeeds, EXE Winter Festival may not only mark the peak of Bansko’s season but establish a new Balkan reference point in Europe’s evolving après-ski landscape.
